＜ステートメント＞
「声」と「杜」と書いた。
「声」は私たち人間を含む、動物を象徴している。
「杜(もり)」は神社の木立や御神木を意味し、植物を象徴している。
両者とも呼吸をしているのだが、働きは真逆だ。
動物は酸素を吸う。声をあげて動き、他の生き物を殺す。
植物は酸素を吐く。静かに地に根をはり、他へ貢献しながら生きる。
植物は動物を遥かにしのぐ存在だ。
私は近所の杜を散歩しながら、考えを廻らせたり、まわりに人がいないと声を出してみたりする。カラスもカアカア鳴いていたり。そんな時、うっそうと繁る木立の意識を感じる。そして、木立と自分の生き方のあまりの違いにあきれる。こうして私は杜に頼って生きている。杜は私の声を祝福していてくれているのかもしれない。
私は植物信者だ。この作品は一本の御神木と、それを崇める一人の人間を描いた一対の宗教画でもある。
